I love this song. It’s wholesome, positive, and strikes the perfect balance between self-esteem and triumph. As the line between self-love and narcissism appears blurred in the “me-first” era of 2024, (despite all-time highs in depression) we can find a strong example of quality self-assuredness in the writing of this song.

At the very core of this masterpiece lies an ingenious use of narrative technique: India chooses to refer to herself in the third person. This isn't just a stylistic choice; it's a profound exploration of self-identity. It begs the question, if I am to love myself, who am I? What am I about? What sort of things do I do?

Looking at yourself in the third person serves as a deep dive into the habits, pleasures, and unique quirks that constitute our individuality. It's a method that feels both intimate and expansive, allowing listeners to reflect on their own selves with a gentle, accepting gaze.

Knowing yourself deeply allows you to love yourself deeply. I truly believe that you can only love something as far as you can understand it.
