Simplicity, Good Faith, and Irrational Self-Belief: A Tribute to Bob Moore ๐จ๐ผโ๐พ
If youโre old-school like me and do your own grocery shopping, Iโll bet Bobโs Red Mill products have once caught your eye.
The packaging represents the organic and dependable products just right.
Portraying founder Bob Moore in all his Americana wholesomeness, the companyโs slogan reads โTo your good healthโ.
Fueled by the belief in the value of a healthy diet, Bobโs Red Mill transformed from a tiny grain factory in Oregon to a global beacon of quality health food.
As Americans have pivoted away from processed foods over the last decade, more nutritious ones have taken over.
โI think that people who eat white flour, white rice, de-germinated corn โ in other words, grains that have had part of their nutrients taken away โ are coming up short,โ Mr. Moore says to Oregon State University.
We must recognize how bleak the health-food landscape was in the 1970s. Thatโs when Mr. Moore decided to build a business on it.
โI began to look at people around the world with obesity and some of the problems that are kind of self-induced by the way we eat and what we don't eat.โ
A noble cause, pressures of doubt still paced Mr. Mooreโs efforts at every turn. Whole-grain wheat milling, a practice long forgotten, was anything but profitable.
Driven by an unwavering belief in his ideas, Moore tirelessly tracked down millstones from the 19th century and other necessary equipment just to get the business on its feet.
These trials were yet no match for principles of good faith. โDo unto others as you would have them do unto you,โ Mr. Moore, a devout Christian, cites as a key strategy for his success.
โI brought simplicity back to it; that's for sure.โ
If the lightbulb hasnโt already lit up, the key here is that goodness wins. If the 1970s can produce a successful company built on virtues of quality, simplicity, and benevolence, best believe it can be replicated.
And the rest was history. Mr. Moore scaled his tiny business to a nine-figure mammoth of a company, resisting lucrative offers over the years from food giants to buy it.
He instead opted for an employee stock ownership plan, which now sees 100 percent of the company in the hands of its more than 700 employees.
Love, sharing, good faith, and great food.
I believe that these values can track success in any realm.
Bob Moore passed away earlier this week at the age of 94.
His legacy lives on through the ethos of his company, a pioneer of true entrepreneurship motivated by principles of positivity.
Mr. Moore is survived by his three sons, Ken, Bob, Jr., and David; daughters-in-law Dora, Barbara, Ashleigh, and Terry; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
โThatโs part of what cements your relationship with your people,โ Mr. Moore says with certainty. โYou go a little extra when you don't have to.โ

๐ Hydration Electrolyte Powder, Lemon Raspberry Hydration really is key! I now understand what it feels like to actually be hydrated, and I want you all to feel this as well. Hydration has been transformative for me. My brain works faster, my mood has improved and I just โฆ FEEL better. The complexion of my skin is clear, and thereโs less puffiness all around. Aside from the effects of the electrolytes, this powder tastes really good. That makes it easy to drink at least twice the amount of water than before. (Higher water intake is the cause of my improvement, not the powder alone! I want to make this clear.) As a high-performing athlete, itโs ironic that hydration slipped through the cracks. Iโm sure other powders work just as fine by the way; thereโs nothing super special about this one. The ingredients are solid, and thereโs no sugar or calories. If you want my experience on what works, try this one out. Shout out to my guy Raf for the recommendation!
๐ฆป๐ฝ Loop Earplugs Sleep is important to me, so Iโm always finding new ways to improve it. Earplugs improve quality of sleep. Just think about it โ less noise coming into the ear = less disruption. Less disruption leads to a deeper state of sleep. That leads to a more restful, recharged morning. Itโs simple, and it works. So Iโm all in. Within a week, Iโve noticed more focus, elevated mood, and a heightened sense of motivation. As a grumpy, slow starter in the mornings, blocking out the noise has been a saving grace.
๐ง Onions and Onion Powder Before 2017, onions topped my list of avoided foods. Once I tried them caramelized with mushrooms and peppers, everything changed. Now, I canโt get enough of them. Being nutrient-dense, AKA low in calories but high in vitamins, fiber, and minerals, onions are a delicious way to power up my meals and feel the positive effects afterward. Since they can be tricky to prepare, Iโm recommending a powdered version. The robust flavor is my current obsession, meaning Iโm putting it on everything, just to move on to something else next week. Breath mint recs coming soon โฆ
Onions are so loaded with healthy properties that I feel compelled to list them below:
๐ซ Antioxidant Properties: They contain antioxidants such as quercetin, which help combat inflammation and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
๐ซHeart Health: Onions promote heart health by reducing blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels.
๐ฆต๐พAnti-inflammatory Effects: Their compounds help reduce inflammation, which can decrease the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
๐ฉธ Blood Sugar Regulation: Onions have been shown to help control blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for people with diabetes or at risk of developing diabetes.
๐ฆด Bone Density: Some studies suggest that onions may boost bone density, which is crucial for preventing osteoporosis.
๐ซ๐ฝ Digestive Health: The fiber in onions promotes good digestive health and helps prevent constipation.
โ Cancer Prevention: Certain compounds found in onions, such as sulfur compounds and flavonoid antioxidants, have been linked to a reduced risk of several types of cancer.
